Superintendent Update Before the Break

March 19, 2021

Dear Coos Bay schools Families and Community,

Spring Break is almost upon us. I wanted to update you all before the break. We will continue to watch the case numbers in our community over the next few weeks. I am optimistic that the numbers will continue to go down in our community.

We are on track to bring the 8-12 grade students back to campus on April 12. The only thing that would delay this would be case numbers impacting our schools to the point that we are not able to mitigate those and stop any spread within our schools. So far this year we have not seen this happen in any of our schools offering in-person instruction. We currently have one bus cohort in quarantine due to a known exposure which has a small number of students involved. That quarantine will end right after Spring Break. We will continue to work with Coos Health and Wellness to address any community cases that impact our schools.

Spring Break can bring opportunities for travel or visitors. I want to encourage everyone to practice good public health protocols over the break so we do not come back to an increase in cases in our county. Let’s finish this year with every student able to get the support they need whether in-person or online.

Have a safe, healthy, and relaxing Spring Break!
